Reading Meme

Ok, ok. I've been seeing this meme everywhere, so I'll do it too. Sheesh.

  1. One book that changed your life: I read a lot of Christian romances in high school, felt guilty about it in college, then restarted once I loosened up enough again to read what I enjoy. I just don't read crap romances anymore (email me to ask which authors I say are 1. overrated and 2. if they can get published why can't I?)...and my tastes have changed. Anyhoo, I digress...the book that changed my life was...I can't narrow it down to one. Suffice it to say that there are many Christian romances out there that are good writing and good for your spiritual life.

Besides fiction, one nonfic book that I read that changed my life was Desiring God by John Piper.

  2. One book that you’ve read more than once: Hah! If I don't reread it I didn't like it. One I've come back to over and over...the Narnia Chronicles.

  3. One book you’d want on a desert island: Tough one. I'll go with Matthew Henry's Commentary. And if that doesn't count, I'll go with ... ack. I cannot choose. Sorry.

  4. One book that made you laugh:
  5. Eats, Shoots, and Leaves. I'm a grammar-phile too and just loved this one.
  6. One book that made you cry: Little Women. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. Abhorsen (but only after I'd read Sabriel and Lirael).

  7. One book that you wish had been written: God is Sovereign in All Things: He Controls Hurricanes, Earthquakes, That Annoying Neighbor and the Bird that Just Pooped on your Car!

  8. One book that you wish had never been written: Peruse the Young Adult Fiction section in your local bookstore. Any book that has emoticons, obscenity in the title, or which has too much teen drama (!) fits in this category.

  9. One book you’re currently reading: Please Understand Me II.

  10. One book you’ve been meaning to read: Blue Like Jazz.

  11. Now tag five people: No. If you want to share, I'd love to read, but otherwise don't feel bullied. Please.

One book that changed my life: Till We Have Faces by C.S. Lewis

One book that you have read more than once: Watership Down by Richard Adams

One book you would want on a desert island: (I am assuming this is in addition to the Bible). This question is like asking me whether I'd like to keep my eyes or my ears.
Maybe I'd say Godel, Esher, Bach: The Eternal Golden Braid by Douglas Hofstadter.

[Two] books that made you laugh: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, and all ensuing sequels. Goops and How to Be Them by Gelett Burgess.

[Three] books that made you cry: Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls, An Old-Fashioned Girl by Louis May Alcott, The Yearling by Marjorie Rawlings.

One book you wish had been written: A biography of Matt and Eleanor Friedberger of The Fiery Furnaces. This would make my research easier...

One book you wish had not been written: The Prayer of Jabez...um The Purpose Driven Life.

One book you are currently reading: Rob Roy by Sir Walter Scott.

One book you've been meaning to [finish]: The Idiot by Dovstoevsky.
